Granite

Granite countertops offer a durable and elegant surface that resists scratches, heat, and stains, making them a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms.

Their natural stone beauty and unique patterns add significant aesthetic value to a space. However, they can be quite expensive, and their installation requires professional handling.

Granite also needs periodic sealing to maintain its stain resistance, and its weight necessitates strong cabinetry support. Additionally, while generally durable, granite can crack or chip if subjected to heavy impacts.

Marble

Marble countertops are renowned for their timeless beauty and luxurious appearance, with unique veining patterns that enhance aesthetic appeal.

They are relatively heat-resistant and can add significant value to a home. However, marble is more porous and prone to staining and scratching compared to other materials, requiring regular sealing and careful maintenance.

It is also relatively soft, making it susceptible to damage from acidic substances like lemon juice or vinegar. Additionally, marble countertops tend to be expensive and can be less durable than other stone options.

Quartz

Quartz countertops are highly durable and non-porous, making them resistant to stains, scratches, and bacteria, with minimal maintenance required compared to natural stones. They come in a wide range of colors and patterns, offering a consistent appearance that can mimic the look of natural stone.

However, they can be less heat-resistant than natural stones, potentially leading to damage from hot pans, and they are generally more expensive than other countertop materials.

Additionally, while quartz is engineered to be durable, it can still suffer from surface damage or discoloration over time, and it lacks the unique, natural variation found in materials like granite or marble.

Cambria Quartz

Cambria is a strong engineered quartz product coming in over 120 different colors and styles. Cambria is strong and has a diamond-like hardness that produces a care-free surface that is easy to maintain. It is also stain resistant, and does not require sealing.

Cambria is also Food Safe because it is non-pourus and which also makes it safe for commercial use.

Cambria Quartz countertops offer several advantages, including their durability, non-porous nature, and low maintenance requirements. They resist staining, scratching, and impact, and come in a wide range of colors and patterns, allowing for a high degree of customization. Additionally, Cambria countertops are made from natural quartz and engineered resin, providing a consistent and uniform appearance.

However, they can be relatively expensive compared to other countertop materials, and while they are heat-resistant, high temperatures can still potentially damage the surface.

Furthermore, the non-porous nature of quartz means it can lack the natural, unique veining found in some other materials like granite or marble.

Quartzite

Quartzite countertops are known for their exceptional durability and resistance to scratches, heat, and stains, making them a robust choice for high-traffic areas. They offer a natural stone look with striking patterns and colors that can rival marble in beauty.

However, quartzite can be quite expensive and often requires professional installation due to its weight. It also needs periodic sealing to maintain its stain resistance and can be more challenging to repair if damaged. Despite its toughness, quartzite may still show signs of wear over time, and its natural variation means color and pattern consistency may not be as uniform as engineered stones like quartz.

Soapstone

Soapstone is largely composed of the mineral talc and is thus rich in magnesium and is most commonly used as a material for countertops and fireplaces as it can absorb, store and evenly radiate heat.

Soapstone is nonporous so it will not absorb substances that will stain it—including bleach and acids. Spills sit on top of the stone and are easily wiped away.

Trending Travertine options from MSI Surfaces:

Travertine

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs and is a common building material used extensively by the Roman empire and still in use today.

Travertine is uniquely combined with cement before it is smoothed and polished to provide a more uniform surface much like its granite and marble counterparts. Its honed natural finish is ideal for both commercial and residential countertop use.
